Quality Engineer Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate and direct assurance activities and procedures for raw materials, processes, and finished products. Work closely with subordinates and verification activities in handling day-to-day projects, problems, and issues.  Confer with the engineering, manufacturing engineering, production control, purchasing and service personnel in resolving problems relative to product design, specifications, tooling, and production operations affecting quality.  Ensure the correct implementation of corrective and preventive actions throughout.  Participate in product teams, providing data analysis and direction for improvement activities.  Deal directly with customers and vendors on specific quality complaints and problems.
  • Collaborate with other Departmental Leaders/Manager to select and develop key personnel in forming specialized work groups to monitor, evaluate and improve processes and then be capable of providing performance feedback to appropriate areas.  Lead and support the implementation of Quality Engineering methods (SPC), Six Sigma and Lean to ensure processes are capable. 
  • Assess the education levels and ASQ certification status of the engineers and technicans in the department. Evaluate the subordinate’s understanding and ability to use modern quality tools. Work closely with subordinate to develop a structured “individual development program” that addresses the areas needing improvement. Provide periodic input to the Director of Quality of ongoing improvements of the Quality Engineering Manager and subordinates.
  • Assist subordinates with problem solving and prioritizing projects.  Work closely with the gage and verification manager, inspection supervisors, and data analysts in handling day-to-day problems and issues. 
  • Develop and document quality assurance standards in conjunction with the development and distribution of the standards' manual to quality personnel throughout the Company.  Develop and document procedures for distribution in the corporate quality manual.
  • Handle departmental personnel issues such as wage reviews, hiring and terminating employees.  Prepare the quality assurance budgets.  Keep abreast of new developments and techniques relative to quality assurance and related functions.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • This position requires a four-year degree with ten years-experience.  A Six Sigma Black Belt certification is highly desired, Green Belt certification is required.  American Society for Quality – Quality Engineer, Manager and Auditor certifications also desired. 
  • This position requires an individual with strong communication skills, ability to lead/facilitate cross-functional teams and exercise good judgment repeatedly and consistently. 
  • Must possess good organizational skills, project management skills and be able to handle multiple tasks, including follow-up and task completion.  Computer literacy, word process skills (MS Word) and spreadsheet skills (MS Excel) are needed.
