Job Duties

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, service, repair and install dock and door equipment.  
  • Perform all assigned planned maintenance on customer dock and door equipment.
  • Welding. 
  • Maintain a service van and its inventory. 
  • Process paperwork after completion of each job.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Less than 2 years related experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to safely operate lift trucks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical school graduate preferred.  
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Welding experience.  
  • Good written and verbal communication and customer care skills.
  • Read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Familiar with tools and equipment such as common hand. 

JOB PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
Drive to customer locations and install, service, and repair dock equipment and other industrial building accessories.
This position reports to the Branch Manager, Field Service Manager, Service Manager.

PERCENTAGE OF TIME KEY TASKS
55-70% Dock and Door Installation / Repair

  • Communicate daily with dispatcher to determine work schedule.
  • Travel to customer locations.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and install all types of dock and door equipment.
  • Confer with customer on problems and issues.
  • Perform safety and operational tests.
  • Quote repair costs & complete repair paperwork.

25-35% Planned Maintenance

  • Service and maintain dock and door equipment.
  • Perform safety and operational tests.
  • Schedule and coordinate service in accordance with daily repair schedule.

00-05% Service Van and Inventory Maintenance

  • Perform minor repairs to the van such as replacing windshield wipers.
  • Service the van by having the oil changed, tire pressure checked, etc.
  • Pick up parts and replenish van’s inventory.
  • Maintain accurate van parts inventory levels in compliance with Branch Guidelines.
  • Maintain Safety Equipment supplied with van. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Less than 2 years related experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Extensive travel (over 20%)
  • Occasional overnight stays (0-5%)
  • Job may require employee to operate a non-CDL, DOT-regulated vehicle and complete an MVR and driver qualification file. In this case, additional documentation will need to be completed, must be 21 years old, and employee will be required to pass a DOT Physical.
  • A valid driver’s license is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good mechanical aptitude and good knowledge of electrical/ electronic systems, and hydraulics.
  • Read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Perform Mig, Tig, and Arc welding of mild steel.
  • Familiar with tools and equipment such as common hand.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Per 8-hour shift. Must be able to sit 2 hours, stand 5 hours, walk 1 hour, see, talk, and hear. Must be able to frequently lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lb., bend/stoop/twist, squat, reach below knee level, grip/grasp, work with arm outstretched, and work above chest level. Must be able to occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 100lb., reach above shoulder level, climb stairs, climb ladders, torque, use vibratory tools, and pinch grip. Must be able to safely operate lift trucks and vehicles/service vans. Must have good binocular vision. Ability to distinguish colors preferred. Possible exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, solvents, fuels, battery acid, and noise pollution
