Manufacturing Manager

Primary Responsibilities        

  • Manage the activities of various Production Departments, including Assembly, Paint, Weld, Machining and Fabrication (includes over 400 employees).  Take necessary action required to assure performance goals are met.  Performance includes meeting safety, quality, productivity, schedule, expense, overtime and housekeeping goals.  Determine employee staffing requirements to meet production schedules.   Ensure that Production Managers, Supervisors, Group Leaders and Operators understand and ask the fundamental question “Is the process running as designed?”
  • Provide cross-functional leadership to various Departmental Leaders.  These leaders include direct reports such as Production Manager, Materials Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, etc. as well as leaders in other tactical areas including:  Safety, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and Tactical Purchasing.  Leadership will focus on leading the third tier of Crown’s four tier accountability system.  Develop communications boards that provide immediate visual overview of the manufacturing performance measures.  Define and implement leader standard work for everyone within your organization and focus strict adherence to follow it. Perform daily/weekly “Gemba” walks with Managers and other Operational Leaders to create a well- disciplined procedure that is driving continuous improvement.  Adhere and reinforce the culture of “Safety First” in all aspects of the operation.  Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Quality Manager, Purchasing Manager and Safety Engineer to incorporate corporate goals into daily operations.   Communicate plans and progress regularly with Plant Manager.  
  • Develop plans and goals to support Continuous Improvement process.  These plans will include goals, resource requirements, capital requirements, etc.  This improvement activity should be directed at Safety, Quality, Process Cost Reduction, Manufacturing Expense Reduction, etc.
  • Oversee the hiring, placing, transferring, promoting, disciplining, training and developing of personnel.  Direct and oversee the approval process for weekly employee payroll hours, the processing and approval of employee paperwork to include vacation, personal leave, accident reports, return to work forms, etc.   Conduct Wage review, direct the handling of problem employees and take proper disciplinary action.   Ensure that all employees are provided with the proper training and motivation to be successful at meeting all Company expectations for them.
  • Conduct Talent Development Discussions (TDD) with all direct reports.  Facilitate TDD process for all salary and office hourly employees within manufacturing. Facilitate Performance Expectations Review (PER) for hourly employees.  Perform duties such as creating/revising job descriptions, establishing/tracking goals and completing annual wage reviews.  Coach, motivate and develop direct reports to successfully take on additional responsibilities.
  • Develop annual budget for process cost.  Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering Manager to develop into expense and capital budgets. Work with Plant Manager and Personnel Manager to develop policy and programs in support of good employee relations.   Perform other duties as assigned by upper management.

 

Qualifications

  • This position requires a four-year college degree, preferably in business administration or engineering, and five to seven years prior management experience.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required with strong emphasis on all areas of communications, listening and speaking. 
  • Ability to multi task is important, as is meeting deadlines and presentation skills.
