Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise the activities of Production Planning and Tactical Purchasing, ensure timely supply of materials, components, assemblies, processes, and services required to support efficient manufacturing operations and the shipment of customer service orders.  Monitor quality and delivery, and direct resources to mitigate potential risks to Production Operations and customer shipments. Develop and educate the group to ensure all personnel have a comprehensive understanding of professional planning, ordering and expediting techniques.  Work closely with the Customer Service and Master Scheduling Groups to manage the supply of purchased parts required to support Service programs while managing inventory cost and risk.
  • Ensure inventory is managed to minimize investment and obsolescence cost.  Enforce proper signature authority and that good business practices are utilized to eradicate unnecessary or incorrect manufactured or purchased parts. Analyze obsolescence risk and work with accounting to ensure adequate financial reserves are in place.  Develop and maintain adequate performance metrics and written policies and procedures to ensure industry leading practices and that adequate performance is attained.  Work with Production Control Leaders and Engineering to ensure proper procedures are developed and implemented to minimize inventory exposure from Engineering Changes.
  • Work closely with the Continuous Improvement Team on the development and timely review of KanBan quantities.  Interface with the Master Scheduling function to ensure ordering and forecasting practices are synchronized. Develop and implement techniques to communicate orders and forecasts to ensure necessary information is available to suppliers.
  • Supervise the Production Planning & Tactical group. Staff; including hiring, educating, developing, and discipline employees in compliance with company policy, applicable labor laws and good business practices. Promote lean principles through the implementation of Standard Work practices and where necessary, lean culture by coaching/sponsoring Six Sigma continuous improvement projects. Conduct annual Talent Development Discussions (TDD), assign individual goals and objectives as appropriate, complete annual wage reviews, create/revise job descriptions, and perform succession/retention planning. 
  • Work closely with Traffic department to develop transportation strategies supporting timely delivery of products at the lowest overall cost.  Monitor international inbound freight to ensure service levels meet expectations. 
  • Attend department, staff, operations, product team and management meetings as appropriate. Initiate and lead meetings to discuss global materials and/or Purchasing activities in general. Fill in for other personnel as needed.  Provide assistance to other operational functions as requested. 
     

  Qualifications 

  • 8-15 years' related experience
  • Bachelor degree (Business or Supply Management)
  • A masters or advanced degree in Business or APICS Certification is preferred
