Manufacturing Engineer I - Machining

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for executing various aspects of manufacturing engineering functions including manufacturing process development and support, product introduction, manufacturing project management on departmental, plant or product level projects, as well as general manufacturing support and team participation.
  • Activities vary depending on the location, current improvement activities and process expertise (machining, fabrication, assembly, paint, etc.)
  • Work closely with other manufacturing functions such as production control, quality engineering, purchasing, safety, environmental and manufacturing management to develop and implement solutions consistent with the goals of the company.
  • Solve machine problems in production departments and ensure process documentations are updated
  • Track productivity improvements, tooling performance improvements and cost reductions
  • Evaluate machining processes to assure the requirements of the quality plan are met
  • Implement engineering design changes as related to the machining process
  • Train production operators in the machining process
  • Develop CNC machining programs using GibbsCam
  • Improve existing manufacturing methods through tooling trials and program changes
  • Consult with tooling and machine vendors as required optimizing CNC capability and tooling performance
  • Apply statistical methods to determine manufacturing process capability as defined in the quality plan
  • Develop operator work instructions and tooling data sheets for production employee
  • Create routings, setup sheets, CNC tooling sheets for new and current component machining
  • Lead large scale capital projects as it relates to CNC from request all the way through implementation
  • Other duties as required



  • This position requires a four year Engineering degree or a two year degree with five years' relevant experience in a manufacturing environment or with no degree ten years' relevant experience.
  • Technical skills and training such as CNC programming CAD layout, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, process capability theory and statistical process control may be required.
  • Experience developing machining programs for a variety of machining centers desired
  • Understanding of fixturing and datum schemes
  • Skilled with GibbsCam programming
  • Strong knowledge of tooling and gaging application
  • Skilled in problem solving, trouble shooting, maching methods and inspection methods preferred
  • Must demonstrate good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a cross-functional team
  • Efficient project planning, documentation and execution skills required
  • Professional certifications and advanced degrees are a plus
