DOT/HAZMAT Compliance Manager

Job Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Company’s US HAZMAT (Hazardous Materials) and DOT (Department of Transportation)/FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) activities.
  • Develop, implement, and manage policies, objectives, plans and procedures to ensure compliance with US state and federal DOT requirements, including Driver Qualifications, Drug and Alcohol Program, vehicle maintenance, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse, IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) taxes, Hours of Service, Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) database, and permits and registrations as required.
  • Develop, implement, and manage policies, objectives, plans and procedures for Hazmat/Dangerous Goods programs, including identifying and classifying dangerous goods in accordance with IATA, Title 49 of the code of Federal Regulations (49 CFR), and IMDG Code.  Review, collect and manage data for distributed parts that are classified as Hazmat/Dangerous goods for ground, ocean, and air shipments. Obtain permits and registration as required.
  • Manage, develop, and maintain all necessary DOT/Hazmat compliance education programs and records, including Hazmat Training and other DOT Training requirements for employees, supervisors, and drivers.




  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 2-4 years HAZMAT/DOT experience, with 5-10 years preferred
  • Functional knowledge of Air/Ocean/Over the Road domestic and international logistics
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of management levels and disciplines
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Effective oral communication, written communication, and organizational skills
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • SAP Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Management Software (HAZMAT/DOT) experience preferred
  • Must have valid driving privileges
  • Ability to frequently travel with overnight stays (6-20%)
