Responsibilities:

 

This position provides support and assistance to a growing team of in-house attorneys responsible for advising the company on a wide variety of legal issues and for supervising outside legal counsel to defend its interests.  The Law Department functions in a broad scope of legal substantive areas including product liability and other litigation, intellectual property, real estate, contract and commercial transactions, creditor’s rights, and human resources. 

The position will require the successful candidate to:

 

  • Coordinate the receipt and review of legal contracts generated by the company, its customers, and its vendors; collaborate with company employees and department attorneys to negotiate and revise documents; establish and maintain appropriate tracking of in-process and executed agreements; and assist branches with request for proposals and request for price quotation (RFP/RFQ) and vendor questionnaires. 
  • Create letters, legal pleadings and memos, spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and various other documents to assist with claims by or against the company; research requests for evidentiary support and obtain required documentation from sources within and outside of the company; organize litigation files; collect information and documentation to assist with responses to discovery or trial exhibits; provide information as requested by the company’s insurance carriers and outside counsel; summarize deposition transcripts; track and catalog depositions of company employees; and serve as the contact point for the staff of our outside law firms.
  • Assist attorneys with the preparation of intellectual property filings; maintain tracking and database of intellectual property documentation; research and obtain materials necessary for intellectual property proceedings; and interact with outside counsel and internal departments to collect necessary information in intellectual property matters.
  • Assist with subpoena responses and document requests including interacting with Human Resources employees and outside counsel; work directly with insurers and branch personnel to gather accident information and track the progress of any repairs, subrogation, and litigation; and input relevant accident information into legal database.
  • Update weekly calendar with pertinent dates and distribute to attorneys; perform administrative functions as required for general corporate activities; make copies of documents as requested by attorneys; file documents as appropriate based upon case knowledge; organize and archive files and literature; process billing statements from outside counsel; open and review mail; maintain appropriate level of office supplies; and perform other duties related to a professional office as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent is preferred, along with three to five years prior experience in a position with significant responsibility where a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail are needed. 
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to maintain the confidence of sensitive information are required. 
  • A notary public registration may be required.
