Manufacturing Engineer II- Application Team/Controls Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Applications Team to provide input on system concepts and support quote development as needed.
  • Responsible for concepting layouts and technology integration of PLC, HMI, safety, servo, robot and/or vision-based hardware within compliance of MTC standards
  • Responsible for developing concepts of PLC / HMI / Vision software applications to meet project requirements within compliance of MTC standards. Software including, but not limited to:  RSLogix 500/5000, FT View Studio, C-More HMI, SICK FlexiSoft Designer, AB Kinetix Servo System, Fanuc / Motoman robots and Cognex Insight Explorer.
  • Responsible for developing concepts of electrical schematics and layout drawings in AutoCAD.
  • Interpret mechanical design drawings for electrical requirements.
  • Support the development of RFQs (Requests for Quotation) for both internal and external automation systems, ensuring accurate technical specifications, cost estimates, and compliance with MTC standards.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers to develop proposals that align with project RFQ requirements and objectives.
  • Initiate assessment of the safety control requirements and insure they are properly implemented into integrated system.
  • Proactive in identifying potential problems and defining action plans to alleviate concerns
  • Conduct research and development using a structured 3-tiered approach—design testing, component-level testing, and supplier investigation—to identify and mitigate risks in the development of future automation systems.
  • Proactive in maintaining and organizing work areas
  • Provide support for other projects and complete additional tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • 16+ years related experience
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Must have valid driving privileges
  • Occasional travel (0-5%)
  • Occasional overnight stays (0-5%)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Controls / Computer Science Engineering, or equivalent, or Technical Degree with experience developing integrated manufacturing equipment or systems.
  • Knowledge of wide range of concepts, practices, and procedures for integration of an automation into manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrate sound analytical and decision-making process.
  • Outstanding communication skills to facilitate discussions within cross-functional teams.
  • Adaptability and ability to prioritize and support multiple projects at once.
  • Must be willing to travel, including internationally, 10%-20%.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and take on tough challenges with energy and positivity.
  • Consistency and dedication in achieving quality results, even under variety of circumstance.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills to project manage many initiatives simultaneously.
