Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Vehicle Product Development

Job Responsibilities:


Provide engineering expertise to the design and development of automation products for material handling industry. Work under general supervision to perform a variety of complicated tasks. Mentor fellow engineers. May lead or direct the work of others. Coordinate, evaluate and implement product-specific hazard and risk analyses.


  • Functional Safety - Guide, coach and support implementation of functional safety across all phases of a project. Coordinate, evaluate and implement product-specific hazard and risk analyses in the area of functional safety, considering existing international standards. Monitor project-specific developments of safety concepts at system, hardware and software level using applicable standards. Work with the test group to ensure verification of product compliance based on functional safety requirements. Stay up to date with industry standards through interfacing with internal and external compliance groups. Document product design.
  • Concept Product Design - Present creative, workable ideas in a well-planned form to supervision for approval. Perform in-depth analytical engineering to develop solutions involving structures, power, and/or performance.
  • Layout Design - Create layouts of proposed design. Ensure designs are functional, safe, reliable, serviceable, manufacturable, cost effective, and esthetically and ergonomically correct. Select appropriate materials, organize bill of materials data, and approve detail drawings.
  • Monitor Prototype Creation - Order parts, request specific testing, and assist in building prototypes. Review test results to ensure proper functioning, and redesign as needed.
  • Product Release - Assist in engineering design release to production. Assist purchasing, quality, and manufacturing engineering in preparation for production. Assist service and marketing departments in developing product service manual or literature content or resolving content discrepancies.
  • Project Leadership - Establish project plans/schedules and provide status reports. Identify staffing and resource requirements. Provide technical leadership to other engineers overseeing concept design, layouts, and design reviews.

  • Bachelor degree, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5 or more years of mechanical design experience, with 8+ years preferred (Salary will be commensurate with experience)
  • Computer aided design (CAD) and 3-D modeling skills
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) application
  • Strong attention to detail with passion for safety
  • Good written communication, verbal communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally with overnight stays (0-5%)
  • Reliable transportation to travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday
  • Mentorship and project leadership experience a plus
