The Bicycle Museum of America, located in the historic downtown area of New Bremen, Ohio, is a local tourist attraction featuring one of the largest private bicycle memorabilia collections in the world. With more than 300 bicycles in store, and thousands more in rotating inventory, the museum has something new to inform and entertain every bicycle enthusiast.
Job Duties:
- Supervision / Employee Development - Supervise museum staff. Prepare employees' work schedules, coordinate, and prioritize projects and workloads. Ensure that employees are properly trained (not only for their own responsibilities but for backup support as well) and seek out ways to advance their skills and capabilities. Evaluate and anticipate work volume and assign/distribute work accordingly. Assist in recruiting and hiring of Museum candidates/employees. Make compensation recommendations and communicate decisions to all direct reports. Participate in any complex personnel situation along with management. Perform duties such as creating/revising job descriptions, conducting Talent Development discussion sessions, rating performance, establishing/tracking goals and completing annual wage reviews. Responsible for coaching, motivating, mentoring, and developing direct reports to successfully take on additional responsibilities.
- Bicycle Museum Duties - Research, coordinate, and recommend acquisition of bicycles, memorabilia and documentation for the collection, which may include limited travel. Develop storylines and themes of the displays. Monitor the storage and maintenance of the collection and setting up of displays. Maintain detailed inventory of the collection. Serve as docent to museum visitors. Create and/or maintain museum website, email, newsletter, accounting reports, and advertisements. Review and recommend museum marketing channels. Assist schools, universities, and individuals in research on bicycles and memorabilia. Collaborate with Company Store on museum gift shop inventory. Coordinate the cycling club events and newsletters. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Art Library and Archive Duties - Perform assigned research, inventory, and other tasks pertaining to library collection. Archive incoming books, pictures, articles and periodicals. Facilitate and organize incoming and outgoing items from the art library.
- Theater and Miscellaneous Duties - Learn every aspect of Lock One Theater operation to ensure back-up coverage for Theater Supervisor. Assist with inquiries and ticket sales. May assist with public relations for the Theater. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2-4 years related experience
- Associate degree (Business Administration)
Non-degree considered if 6+ years of related experience along with a high school diploma or GED
- Occasional travel & Occasional overnight stays (0-5%)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Computer, communication, money counting, and organizational skills are necessary for this position.
- Knowledge of bicycle history.
