Project Management Manager - Software Product Development

Job Responsibilities:

 

Manage project management efforts for software product development including new market entries, system upgrades, and redesigns.  Oversee management of agile projects including planning, monitoring and reporting within the Software Product Development organization.  Develop work standards to ensure the integrity and quality of project artifacts and deliverables.  Work closely with Product Development’s Program Management group.  This position reports to the Director of Software Product Development.  Reporting to this position are Delivery Leads / Project Managers and other software product delivery personnel.

 

  • Process Champion - Implement industry best practices and continuous improvement for delivering impactful software including project charters, project plans, stage gate process, and use of tools, such as Jira and Confluence. Upon project and sprint completion, conduct project/sprint retrospectives to identify successful and unsuccessful process elements.  Collaborate with other department leaders to use the findings to improve the department’s delivery record.  In addition, assess and develop best in class Product Development Processes and deploy into the organization.  
  • Project Planning, Supervision, and Project Oversight - Oversee delivery and project management staff.  Define project timelines and monitor milestones to measure project progress. Oversee identification, management, and communication of project extensions and deviations from scope and objectives.  Offer guidance on project dependencies and critical path elements.  Identify and minimize project risks. Working with delivery leads, ensure that assigned projects have clear scope, resources, and schedule.  Monitor project metrics, dashboards, and mechanisms tracking project backlog, completed work, and estimation accuracy.  Assist and advise in creation and maintenance of the department's project commitments.   Ensure that delivery leads are proactively identifying and removing impediments and blockers to getting software developed and delivered to the end user.
  • Organizational and Employee Development - Identify the current and future needs of the team and work to build the capability of individuals within the team. Perform duties such as creating job descriptions, conducting talent development discussions, rating performance, establishing/tracking goals and completing wage reviews.  Coach, motivate, mentor, and develop direct reports to successfully take on additional responsibilities. 
  • Communication and Leadership - Organize and facilitate key project meetings. Maintain accurate and organized project records and meeting minutes. Communicate in writing and orally project progress and deviation from goals as appropriate to project team members, key stakeholders, and executives. Collaborate with counterparts within Engineering and Design to maintain an awareness and create alignment of all development projects related to or part of the Insite product portfolio.  Coach the delivery leads on mentoring their assigned software development teams to be more self-sufficient in using agile software development practice.
  • Miscellaneous - Stay informed of advances and pertinent changes in project management thought leadership.  May support compliance with International Standardization Organization (ISO), European Union, and other organizations as related directly to the PD process. May represent Company in explaining PDP process. Perform other duties as assigned.

Location: This position is based in our New Bremen, Ohio global headquarters with possible option to work from the Troy, Ohio office.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field
  • 5 years of related experience
  • Knowledgeable about agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures
  • Ability to effectively manage cross-functional teams
  • Good organizational, analytical, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to occasionally travel with overnight stays (0-5%)
  • Reliable transportation to travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Scrum Master and Kanban Practitioner certified
  • Experience working in an agile software environment and new product development
  • Ability to create and deliver effective formal presentation
