Senior Manufacturing Engineer- Gears

Responsibilities:

  • Recognized process leader responsible for creating, designing, and supporting the production of gears, grinding and other processes to manufacture, shafts axles and other related products.
  • This role includes development and implantation of strategic initiatives, development of manufacturing processes and new product introduction leadership for gears and grinding.
  • Lead the plant’s technological drive in the gears.
  • Develop and mentor other Manufacturing Engineers and Process Technicians while providing technical direction and leadership.
  • Lead improvements to gear operations through manufacturing engineering analysis of existing operations compared to future requirements based on capacity, cost reduction, safety and/or risk avoidance opportunities.
  • Preparations of project justification including recommendations, make-vs.-buy analysis, layout, cost impact and schedule activities as required. 
  • Implementation of processes including equipment procurement, coordination of installation, process capability prove-out, training, process documentation, work standard measurement and production start-up. 
  • Demonstrate cross-functional project management skills. 
  • Input to and development of strategic and capital plans.
  • Provide ongoing support of processes resulting from process improvement, part changes, changing capacities, etc.
  • Review production problems as they are identified and implement solutions. 
  • Develop, implement and update documentation and training. 
  • Contribute to initiatives by other plant functions such as quality, safety, environment, production control, etc., to improve operations.
  • This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Four-year technical degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering Technology or Agricultural Engineering and a minimum of five years’ experience in a manufacturing engineering role in a gear manufacturing environment.
  • Must have extensive background in machining and machining related technology.
  • Strong background in machining process development and process improvement.
  • Ability and willingness to develop new machining related technologies.
  • Excellent leadership and coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills to facilitate discussions with a wide variety of personnel at different levels of the organization.
  • Ability to support multiple projects at once.
  • Must have valid driving privileges
  • Occasional travel (0-5%)
  • Occasional overnight stays (0-5%)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detailed working knowledge of gear manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Ability to read an interpret gear prints and standards is required.
  • Detailed knowledge of grinding, hobbing, shaping and finishing processes associated with gear manufacturing.
  • Experience in gear grinding programming and troubleshooting processes.
  • Detailed knowledge of gear inspection including inspection equipment operations and programming.
  • Some international travel required.
