Corporate Tax Supervisor

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for the supervision and review of all sales and use tax returns and workpapers for the Company and its subsidiaries as assigned. Perform tax research and tax planning, respond to internal company questions/help desk issues, and responsible for overseeing the documentation of corporate sales and use tax positions and audits.
  • Monthly review and analysis of manufacturing and branch use tax data for proper accrual and reporting of use tax and coordinating corrections required. Monitor fixed asset additions to ensure proper sales or use tax reporting.
  • Supervise the management and updating of the computer software applications that calculate and report sales tax on the Company’s invoices throughout the United States, that include a suite of Vertex software and other databases. Ensure systems are appropriately configured to incorporate tax compliance irregularities, specific to the Company, and maintain compliance with state statutes. Upon discovery of potential issues, conduct exposure analysis and clearly document the issue and results for presentation to Sales and Use Tax Manager.
  • Provide guidance as needed to the Sales and Use Tax Administrators, including reviewing draft correspondence.  Specifically responsible for resolution of complex sales and use tax issues and for responding to sales and use tax questions in all areas of the group companies. This includes final review and approval of exemption certificates and system configuration corrections.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 5-7 years related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (Accounting)
  • CPA or advanced degree also required and other certifications will be considered.
  • Must have knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax laws.
  • Must have solid technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data base software to perform computation and data mining and manipulation.
  • Ability to perform research using on-line, word-search resources such as CCH Intelliconnect
  • Experience with Vertex O and Vertex Returns software (Vertex O, Vertex Q, Vertex Exemption Certificate Manager) or similar is required, if applicable, along with SAP, Lotus Notes Exemption Certificate Database, or other similar ERP software.
  • Strong attention to detail and interpersonal (written and oral) skills are necessary.
